Odisha: Newly-built airport boundary wall collapses 3 days ahead of inauguration

Bhubaneswar: A portion of the boundary wall of Utkela Airport in Odisha’s Kalahandi district collapsed today.

The newly-built airport is scheduled to be inaugurated on August 15, sources said.

“A portion of the boundary wall of Utkela Airport collapsed due to certain issues in releasing rainwater from its immediate surroundings,” said a senior official of the Works department.

Notably, the airport got the mandatory licence from Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on August 7 to start flight operations.

The DGCA, in exercise of the powers under Rule 78 of the Aircraft Rules, 1937 delegated vide S.O no. 727 (E) dated 4th October, 1994, herby grants licence to the Government of Odisha for Utkela Airport, said a notification issued by the Centre on August 7.

The licence authorizes the aerodrome to be used as regular place of landing and departure to all persons on equal terms and conditions for operation by aircraft. The licence is liable to be suspended/modified/ withdrawn/or any condition may be imposed, if any violation of the provisions of the Aircraft Act 1934, Aircraft Rules 1937 and any other orders issued under the said Act, added the notice.
