Odisha Police raid Choudwar Jail, seize narcotics, articles

The commissionerate police raided the Choudwar Circle Jail in Odisha’s Cuttack district in the wee hours on Thursday and seized huge narcotics and other incriminating articles.

Acting on a tip-off that some dreaded criminals are running their network from the jail, a team of commissionerate police comprising five senior police officers, 15 Inspectors and five platoons of armed police forces and sub collector of Cuttack, led by Cuttack DCP Sanjiv Arora, conducted a surprise raid on the jail at 4.30 AM and seized huge quantity of narcotics, two LED TVs, one audio system and several objectionable articles from the prisoners.

“We will investigate as to how such huge narcotics could go inside the jail,” the DCP told the mediapersons.

He also informed that the raid was conducted following complaints of crime network monitored by some dreaded criminals from inside the jail under whose direction their gang members were committing crimes.

To a question on the recent bombing on the house of the secretary of Odisha Cricket Association Asirbad Behera in Cuttack, the DCP said the police are investigating whether the incident has any link with these criminals lodged inside the Choudwar Circle Jail.

“We will inform the matter to our higher authorities”, he added.
