Odisha seals thrilling win against Saurashtra in Ranji tie

Speedster Suryakant Pradhan’s fiver helped Odisha to script a thrilling win against Saurashtra in the Group B Ranji Trophy match played at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The Saurashtra team failed to chase the total of 212 put up by Odisha. The team was bundled out for 179 and Odisha won the match by 32 runs. With this, Odisha earns six points.

Winning the toss, Saurashtra opted to field first. Putting in to bat, Odisha put up a total of 228 in the first innings riding on the ton of Sandeep Patnaik who scored 123 followed by Ranjit Singh who score 30. No other player put up significant score on the board. Dharmendrasingh Jadega was the pick of bowlers with four wickets.

Chasing the target, Saurashtra scored 186 despite the fighting innings by the captain who scored 64 runs. For Odisha, Basant Mohanty scalped four wickets with an economy of 2.9.

With this Saurashtra conceded first innings lead after their batsmen failed to come good against Odisha.

Odisha began their second innings with a lead of 42 runs. The Saurashtra bowlers fought back well with sending the Odisha batsmen for a total of only 169. Subhranshu Senapati was the top scorer for Odisha in the second innings with 57 on board. Saurashtra’s Deepak Punia took five wickets for his team.

The match was evenly poised as Odisha gave a winning target of 212. The bowlers did well to bowl out the batsmen falling short of their target. Wicketkeeper-batsman Sargar Jogiyani was the top scorer from the losing team with 68 runs. Odisha won the match by 32 runs. Suryakant Pradhan was the top performer in the bowling department with five wickets in the second innings. Pradhan was adjudged the Man of The Match for taking eight wickets in the match.

Meanwhile, Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) announced a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each to Suryakant Pradhan and Sandeep Patnaik for their crucial contribution in the win over Saurashtra.
