Odisha woman kills son, ends life; locals allege murder

Jagatsinghpur: In a heart-wrenching incident, a 30-year-old woman allegedly killed her five-year-old son and later committed suicide at Sithalpur village under Naugaon police limits in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Friday night.

According to reports, the woman, identified as Tanuja Rout, threw her son into a pond and later ender her life by hanging herself from a tree.

However, the villagers alleged that the mother-son duo was murdered by the family members as the bodies were cremated by them without informing the police in order to destroy evidence.

On the other hand, police said the woman took the extreme step due to mental disorder and a written statement in this regard has been given by the deceased’s father. The in-laws of the woman also said she was mentally unstable.

The locals, however, contradicted the statement of the woman’s father. Investigation into the matter is underway.
