Police, Maoists exchange fire along Kandhamal-Rayagada border

The police today exchanged fire with a group of armed Maoists inside Kalitota forest under Kotagarh Nuagan area along Kandhamal-Rayagada border, Kandhamal SP K Vishal Singh said.

Talking to OST, the Kandhamal SP  said a group of armed policemen had gone inside Kalitota forest for a combing operation when a group of Maoists suddenly opened fire on them.

The policemen launched a counter attack and that led to the gunfight , he said.

“Till now, we have no information about the casualty”, Singh said, adding that the encounter was still going on.
