President Mukherjee has also taken up the demand for a dedicated office of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Puri for overall surveillance of the Shree Jagannath Temple with the Union ministry of Culture, he said.

Padhee, who has received a communication in this regard from the Rashtrapati Bhavan Secretariat, said the President’s Secretariat has communicated to the Union ministry of Culture and the Planning Commission on the issues pertaining to Nabakalebar and the ASI office at Puri.

He said the President, during his recent visit to Puri, had shown keen interest in the organisation of the Nabakalebar of the lords in a special way and was apprised of the pressing need for a dedicated office of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) at Puri for maintenance and conservation of the centuries-old shrine.

President Mukherjee had asked Padhee to write to him on the issues so that his office could take it up with the concerned authorities and accordingly Padhee had sent him a letter along with documents relating to Nabakalebar.

It may be noted that chief minister Naveen Patnaik had written to the Planning Commission on May 21 seeking Rs 1,347 crore for infrastructure development required for the Nabakalebar, but there was no response to the letter.
