Public health officer nabbed by CBI while accepting bribe in Odisha’s Paradip

Paradip: A doctor working as Public Health Officer was nabbed today by a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sleuths while the former was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 at his office near Bhuian Chhak in Paradip town of Jagatsinghpur district.

Following this, a simultaneous house search was initiated at different places associated with the doctor, which is underway.

The Public Health Officer was identified as Rajendra Narayan Panigrahy. He had accepted the bribe amount from an agent of Eminence Shipping Company.

According to an official source, Panigrahy accepted the bribe for checking the health condition of crew members of a ship. Allegedly, the doctor used to often demand bribes from crew members of most of the ships coming to Paradip town to issue health reports.

A trap was hatched by the CBI team and Panigrahy was caught red-handed, a senior official said.

The places where raids are being carried out include Panigrahy’s residential quarters, office, and his paternal house in Balasore district.
