Rainfall likely in Odisha in next 24 to 72 hours, says Met dept

Bhubaneswar, July 9:

While most parts of Odisha continue to reel under agonisingly dry and humid conditions, the Met department has predicted rainfall in the state in the next 72 hours.

“A trough line has formed over Punjab up to the north-east Bay of Bengal. Under its influence, some parts of Odisha would receive rainfall in the next 24 hours. However, there is possibility of more rainfall in the state in the next 48 hours from July 11”, the Met office said in a release here this evening.

Talking to the media here, director, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu said the temperature and the humidity level in Odisha has gone up due to the blowing of hot wind from the south-west direction from Telengana over coastal Odisha.

He, however, said there is a possibility of formation of a low pressure off the Odisha coast by July 11- 12 and that would trigger more rainfall in the state as well as lead to a drastic fall in temperature and humidity levels.

Dr Sahu, however, said, the state had received rainfall  below 51 percent of the average so far this monsoon.

Meanwhile, temperature went up to about 3-4 degree in most parts of the state today with Sonepur being the hottest place with 40 degree Celsius.

While temperature in the state capital was 36.2, the humidity level went up to 85 percent making the life of the city denizens miserable.
