The fact that as many as ten Congress MLAs did not turn up during the filing of the party candidate’s nomination has fuelled speculation that Biswal may not be enjoying the support of all the 27 party legislators. However, both Bhupinder Singh and party chief whip Prasad Harichandan expressed confidence that Biswal will emerge victorious.

When asked how the party would muster the extra 3 votes to ensure Biswal’s victory, Singh quipped, “We have our own game plan but why should we share the secret with the media ?”

Biswal has filed two sets of nomination papers with 20 of the 27 party MLAs signing the documents as proposers.

On being asked about his chances of victory, Biswal said he was confident of getting the support of all party MLAs as well as others outside the party.
