Relief! No cyclone threat for Odisha: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Giving a major relief to the people of Odisha, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday announced that there is no cyclone threat to the State.

Confirming this to the media, Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Head of Cyclone Warning Division of IMD, said that the depression has turned into a deep depression and is likely to weaken in coming days.

“There is no chance of the deep depression further intensifying so there is no possibility of a cyclone,” said Mohapatra.

He also informed that the deep depression is moving northwest and in the evening it was centered some 30 kms from Kolkata.

The Met office, however, said under its impact several parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand would witness heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours till October 10.
