Retired IES Officer from Odisha dies of COVID-19

Bhubaneswar: Retired IES Officer Dr Biranchi Narayan Nanda today succumbed to COVID-19 while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi.

He breathed his last at 7.00 AM at the Army Hospital Research & Referral, Delhi.

The 1983-batch IES Officer had held various key positions in the Ministry of Labour and Employment. He retired from his service as the Secretary of the Labour and Employment Ministry in 2020.

The 61-year-old Dr Nanda had received first dose of a COVID vaccine during his stay in Delhi. But, a few days ago, he was admitted to the Army Hospital Research & Referral for treatment after being infected with Coronavirus.

However, he lost battle to COVID-19 under treatment in the morning on Sunday.

Born in Jajpur district of Odisha, Dr Nanda was associated with a social outfit ‘Odisha Swabhiman Parishad’ as the president after his retirement. He had dedicated his post-retirement life to the State for its social and economic development.
