Robbers decamp with Rs 2.89 lakh from bank

Robbers Tuesday night decamped with Rs 2.89 lakh in cash after breaking into the State Bank of India (SBI) branch at Rajnagar in Odisha’s Kendrapara district, police said on Wednesday.

A gang of five robbers broke open the iron grill on the rear side of the bank with gas cutters to enter the bank and attempted to break open the iron chest containing the cash but failed. Later, they chanced upon a box containing the cash and left with it, police said.

“The gang had tried to open the iron chest containing cash, but failed in its attempt. However, they chanced upon a box which carried the cash and decamped with it. It’s an organized crime having expertise in committing such offenses. We are trying to nab the culprits,” said Bijoy Kumar Mallik, IIC Rajnagar.
