Rs 50 lakh Ganja, Rs 3.10 lakh cash seized in Odisha; 4 held

Jeypore: Busting a ganja smuggling racket, Jeypore Sadar police of Koraput district yesterday arrested four persons and seized a huge cache of cannabis worth Rs 50 lakh and cash amounting  to Rs 3,10,000  from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off about the narcotic item being transported in a SUV and a truck bearing registration number of West Bengal from Lamptaput area,  a police  team intercepted the vehicles at Patraput bridge and detained the four accused.

During search of the two vehicles, the cops recovered 181 packets of ganja weighing 937.200 kg. Besides, they  seized the vehicles and seven mobile phones from them.

All the four accused are residents of Koraput district-  Sudarshan Panigrahi (28) of Jalaput village, Chandrasekhar Khora (30) of Semiliguda village, and Ranjan Gadanga (23) and Gopinath Nirika (23) of Surumi village.

Koraput police has been taking stringent action to curb illegal ganja trafficking and the efforts will continue in coming days, said a statement issued by the Jeypore Sadar police.
