School syllabus might be reduced by 30% or more: Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: After the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) made an announcement regarding reduction in its syllabus for Class 9 to 12 by up to 30% for 2020-2021 academic session, Odisha Government is considering to follow suit.

Speaking to mediapersons, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash said the state Government will take the CBSE’s move into serious consideration and decide accordingly in the interest of students. The syllabus  might be curtailed by 30 per cent or more than that.

“Since everything remains hypothetical now due to the COVID-19 pandemic,  it is too early to say anything  regarding reduction in school curriculum. Since schools are closed since long, the state Government obviously consider the CBSE’s decision. However, the volume of reduction will be ascertained only after the schools reopen,” Das said.

Regarding reopening of schools, the Minister said decision will be taken keeping in view the COVID-19 situation in the state after August 31.
