Senior OAS officer’s father-in-law arrested for ‘impregnating’ minor domestic help

Bhubaneswar: The father-in-law of senior OAS officer and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Deputy Zonal Commissioner Pramod Kumar Prusty was arrested by a special team of Jajpur police late last night in connection with the alleged rape of a tribal girl at his Shailashree Vihar residence here.

As per the allegations, the girl is now five months pregnant.

Following the arrest, the cops conducted accused Prafulla Prusty’s medical examination and are interrogating him in connection with the incident. He will be produced before court today, said sources.

Besides, action will been taken against the OAS officer as per the Child Labour Law. The cops are also searching to nab middleman Brahmananda Barik, who had engaged the girl at the house. Earlier on Wednesday after,  a team from the Balichandrapur police station raided his house but didn’t find him and his father-in-law.

It is pertinent to mention here that the minor girl had been working at Prusty’s house as a domestic help for the last two years.

On November 1, the girl’s mother, a native of Nanapur village in Jajpur district, lodged a written complaint at Balichandrapur police station alleging that her daughter has been raped by Prafulla Prusty around five months ago.

She alleged that her daughter had returned to her house in Dussehra. Noticing change in her physical appearance, when the mother asked her about it, the minor confessed that the OAS officer’s father-in-law repeatedly raped her for five to six months and used to threaten her with dire consequence if she discloses anything to anyone.

Meanwhile, the BMC has told the police that the OAS officer is on leave.
