Smart Decision: Data science and Artificial Intelligence

Bhubaneswar: A National Virtual Symposium was organized  in ASBM University, with the
theme “Smart Decision and Artificial Intelligence” on April  17.

It was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Dr. Rajesh Sharma, ITS, Senior Deputy Director General, Dept. of Telecommunication, Govt. of India. In his address, Dr. Sharma provided an insight to the Government initiatives with specific thrust on the telecommunication field. He traced the history of Artificial Intelligence and explained how it helps the telecom industry to reduce operational costs by minimizing human intervention needed for network configuration and maintenance. He enumerated the major challenges faced by Government pertaining to shortage of access affordability and
inconsistency of skilled expertise, R & D technology and responsible application identifying
sector with potential of maximum externality and different AI cases in healthcare, education,
agriculture, smart city, smart mobility in transportation.

The Guest of Honour, Shri Anvesh Dasari, Vice President- R & D Efftronics Systems Pvt.Ltd
spoke about data science and AI and how they are  being utilized for smart decision making and
different spectrums of autonomous smart machine.

Shri Bala Prasad Peddigari, Chief Product Officer – Hi-Tech CTO Engineering Team at Tata
Consultancy Services, Hyderabad, emphasized on the role of AI in Decision Science. He
proposed various approaches to promote data science in collaboration with technology in
different AI framework.

Prof.(Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, President, ASBM University, in his presidential address,
highlighted the importance of in-depth look at each decision making and role played in a good
strategic decision-making framework. Further, he said that repetitive and high volume
administrative tasks can be performed by AI tools leaving HR to concentrate on building
meaningful engagement and relationship with employee and candidate.

While welcoming the guests and participants, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Kalyan Shankar Ray
explained how the corporate world is increasingly using artificial intelligence. He added that
ASBM University has introduced courses in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science to meet the
industry’  needs for trained manpower in the subject.

The Plenary session was attended by Mr. Sakyasingha Mohapatra, Founder & Managing
Director and CEO, Sak Robotix Lab, Dr. Korra Sathya Babu, Department of CSE,NIT, Raurkela,
Dr. Annavarapu Chandra Sekhar Rao, Department of CSE,IIT(ISM), Dhanbad. The group
session was attended by students, academicians and industry practitioners from India and
abroad. It was coordinated by Prof. Avijit Mondal while Dr. Jhum Swain proposed the vote of
thanks.
