Tata Steel initiates steps to curb dengue at Kalinganagar

Kalinganagar: In line with its vision of providing a safe workplace with utmost care for health and hygiene of people, the Occupational Health Services Department of Tata Steel Kalinganagar, in collaboration with the ‘Public Health’ team of JUSCO, has taken up various measures to help people deal with the prevention of dengue. This is a proactive intervention by Tata Steel to positively impact employees’ health.

The company has already intensified dengue preventive activities before the arrival of monsoon in order to achieve zero incidence of this infection. Apart from ramping up housekeeping activities, source (breeding sites) reduction drive, anti-larval activity have been taken up in the plant premises and labour colonies. After identifying possible breeding sites, larvicidal spray is being carried out regularly at the plant site to eliminate the formation of mosquito larva.

The anti-larval team has been engaged for this activity throughout the plant area, rehabilitation colonies, housing complex, and labour colonies among others. Cold fogging has also been taken up for indoor areas like offices. To boost awareness on precaution against dengue, various IEC activities are being rolled out for contract workers and employees.

Besides this, an ELISA machine has been placed at Tata Steel-Medica Hospital in Kalinganagar to help detection of dengue patients. It may be noted here that on account of these proactive measures, there has been no case of dengue reported among employees and contract workers of Tata Steel Kalinganagar in last two years.
