Brahmapur, Apr 19:
Bowing to popular demand, the administration of Ganjam district in Odisha on Sunday decided to extend the famous Thakurani Yatra here by 11 days.
The festival, which is held once every two years and began on March 28 this year will continue till April 27, officials said here.
“Several people approached the district administration requesting an extension of the festival,” said Nikhil Pawan Kalyan, Sub-Collector Brahmapur.
Even though the festival committee had initially sought permission for 31 days, the district administration had allowed it only 20 days.
The festival is attracting huge crowds from different places and hundreds of the people are thronging the Silk City to witness the yatra.
Locals dress up as mythological characters following fulfillment of their wishes and roam the streets during the festival.
