Third Raahgiri Day celebrated in Odisha capital

The Janpath from Master Canteen Square to Ram Mandir Square in the Odisha capital was chock-a-block with denizens from all age groups to celebrate the third Raahgiri Day this morning based on the theme ‘Gandhigiri’.

The capital city celebrated the first Raahgiri Day since the announcement of Smart City list on Thursday.

The celebrations began with cake cutting and congratulating each other for the capital city topping the Smart City list among 20 cities across the country in the first phase. Denizens across all age groups were seen skating, practising yoga, cycling, playing rock music, street play, painting and jogging on the 1.2 km stretch.

Higher Education Minister Pradip Panigrahi, Tourism and Culture Minister Ashok Panda, BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and Smart City Brand Ambassador and Ollywood actress Archita were among the dignitaries who were present on the occasion.

City dwellers, including school children, thronged the site and participated in the awareness programme for clean environment. For this, plying of vehicles along the route was restricted from 6.30 am to 10.30 am.

On the occasion, Odisha Khadi and Village Industries Board organised an exhibition where weaving through spindle Charakha and forest produces were showcased. Besides, socio-cultural organisation—Aama Odisha—also participated in the celebrations.

Special arrangement were made by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), state Tourism department and Commissionerate police for peaceful celebrations.
