Three arrested in Odisha for admission scam

Rourkela police today arrested three members of an inter-state racket involved in duping aspirants on the pretext of getting them enrolled in various medical colleges across Odisha.

The arrested have been identified as Sekhar Goswami of Malgodown area, Karan Sharma of Basanti Colony and Rahul Pandey from Balia in Uttar Pradesh.

They are not masterminds but were working as agents at Rs 5000 per month, preliminary investigation revealed.

According to reports, the gang used to make list of the students who have failed to clear medical entrance examinations and contact them to get them admitted in various medical courses.

After winning their trust, the trio was asking the students and their parents to deposit money in their bank accounts.

They were collecting Rs 5, 000, 00 per seat promising admission by September 29 and have already amassed Rs 30, 000, 00. Police also seized 10 passbooks of various banks from their possession. They had withdrawn Rs 20, 000, 00 and rest Rs 10, 000, 00 was available in three accounts.

Two teams of Rourkela police have been sent outside the state for further investigations.
