Three officials hospitalised after gas leak in Rourkela Steel Plant

Rourkela: Three officials were hospitalised after a reported gas leak at a Captive Power Plant (CPP) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) here in the morning.

The victims have been identified as CPP-1 senior official Sourav Sinha, Senior Manager MA Hassan and Senior Technician Pabitra Mohan Sahoo. While Sinha and Hassan have been admitted to the ICU of Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela, the senior technician is under treatment at the general ward of the hospital.

The incident took place at around 7.30 am on Thursday morning when around 60 employees were engaged at CPP-1 near blast furnace on premises of the RSP.

According to reports, three officials, who were on the duty during the period, fell unconscious after gas leaked from a pipe. Immediately, the victims were rushed to the IGH for treatment.

On receiving information, the senior officials of RSP reached the site and initiated probe to ascertain cause of gas leak.
