Two brothers injured in police encounter in Odisha’s Ganjam

Asika: Two brothers, who were allegedly involved in killing a BJD leader, sustained injuries in an encounter with police near Palimala under Asika police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district today.

Sunil Jena and Purna Jena, the brother duo, have been admitted to the Asika hospital for treatment. Asika police station IIC Santosh Jena and an ASI were also injured during the incident.

According to police sources, the two were travelling on a motorcycle near Palimala this morning when police tried to intercept them. In a bid to escape, the duo opened fire at the cops.

During retaliation by the policemen, the two brothers were hit by bullets on their legs and fell from the two-wheeler. Police have seized a Mauser gun, five bullets, Rs 17,500 and the motorcycle from their possession.

The two were allegedly involved in murdering BJD youth leader Bahana Lenka on December 31, last year, police said.
