Firing in city, two injured

Panic gripped the capital city following a firing incident in broad daylight at Nageswar Tangi colony under the Lingaraj police station limits this morning in which two persons were injured.

However, the locals caught hold of one of the accused and handed him over to the police.
The incident took place at about 11 am.

According to police, two bike-borne miscreants tried to snatch a gold chain from Jhuna Patnaik while she was strolling near her house. When her husband Jitendra responded to her cres for help and rushed to the spot he was hit in the head by one of the miscreants with the butt of a revolver. He later opened fire injuring Kartik Maharana, Jitendra’s neighbour who tried to resist the chain snatchers.

However, the locals caught one miscreant while the other managed to flee the spot.
The police who reached the spot after the incident arrested the culprit and took the injured .
to the Capital Hospital for treatment.

The arrested accused was later forwarded to the court.
