Two Odisha cops suspended for assaulting man at police station

Jagatsinghpur: An Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of police and a constable have been suspended for allegedly assaulting a person at police station in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district.

The two cops, identified as ASI Rabindra Senapati and constable Siba Jani, were suspended as per the direction of Jagatsinghpur SP Prakash R.

According to reports, one Lingaraj Das of Odisso village under Jagatsinghpur police limits had accused the two policemen of illegally detaining and torturing him on the allegation of misbehaving with woman sarpanch of Odisso panchayat.

Das claimed that although he pleaded innocence, they abused and assaulted him at police station. He further alleged that police threatened to lodge a false case against him under SC and ST Atrocity Act for misbehaving with the sarpanch, who belongs to the SC category.
