Veterinary doctor held on graft charge in Odisha

Cuttack: The Vigilance officials today arrested an Additional Veterinary Assistant Surgeon in Puri district for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 5,000 bribe to release compensation amount towards damaged caused to a poultry farm during Cyclone Fani.

Based on a complaint filed by one Bipin Kumar Mangaraj of Kankapur village under Gadishagada police limits of Puri district, the officials of Vigilance, Bhubaneswar division laid a trap and caught the Additional Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Sagar Kumar Samal red-handed in his office while demanding and accepting the bribe money from the complainant.

Worth mentioning, Samal accepted the bribe from the complainant to release compensation of Rs 70,000 towards damage caused to his poultry farm during Fani.

The bribe money was recovered from the possession of Samal and seized in presence of witness. Following his arrest, Samal was forwarded to the court.

This apart, his house at Gochhayat Bagicha under Kumbharapada police limits in Puri district is being searched.
