Visually impaired girl brutally attacked in Odisha, rape suspected

Berhampur: A miscreant/group of miscreants allegedly tried to kill a visually impaired minor girl by slitting her throat at Puhundi village under Jarada police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district last night.

The victim, a 16-year-old girl and a student of class-VII of a blind school, was found at the backyard of her house in a pool of blood this morning following which she was rushed to Patrapur hospital in a critical condition, reports said.

She was later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital here as her condition deteriorated.

It was initially suspected that the girl was raped before the murder attempt. However, a police official said that as per preliminary probe it doesn’t appear as a case of rape.

Till last reports came in, the survivor was yet to give her statement to police as her vocal cord has been affected in the attack and she is not in a state to speak out properly.
