Wild elephant tramples man to death in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

Betnoti: A wild elephant reportedly trampled a man to death in the Betnoti area under the Baripada forest division in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district last night.

The deceased person has been identified as Puina Dehury, a resident of Kalianal village under Morada police limits in Maurbhanj.

According to reports, three wild elephants went on a rampage at the village creating panic among people on Thursday night. One of the tuskers targeted the house of Puina while he and his two daughters were sleeping. On learning that elephants were coming towards their house, two girls managed to run away. However, the tusker dragged their father and trampled him to death.

The locals alleged that the forest department had not given any prior notice about the elephants for which such an incident happened.

On receiving information, Betnoti forest range officials and local police reached the spot and took the body to the PRM Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
