14-ft-long king cobra rescued from house in Odisha’s Dhenkanal

Bhubaneswar: A 14-foot-long king cobra was rescued from the roof of a house in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district today.

The king cobra was spotted on the asbestos roof of Kamala Dehury’s house at Dahimala Sabar Sahi under Kapilash forest range, sources said.

On being informed, members of Banyak Foundation reached the village and rescued the king cobra. The poisonous snake, weighing around 8 kg, was later released into Kapilash sanctuary, sources added.

“The king cobra rescued from Kamala Dehury’s house is an adult one. Dehury’s village Dahimala Sabar Sahi is located very close to Kapilash sanctuary.  The serpent might have entered into the village in search of food” said a member of Banyak Foundation.

Notably, king cobra is recognized as the longest poisonous snake of the world.
