2.21 quintals of ganja seized, one nabbed

A four-member team of the Special Task Force (STF) of State Crime Branch (CB) here arrested a Ganja smuggler from Sambalpur and seized 2.21 quintal of ganja from his possession on Friday.

The accused was identified as Trinath Gadanayak of Jamujhari village in Sambalpur.

CB sources said following reports about the smuggling of Ganja, an STF team raided Gadanayak’s house in Jamujhari village from where he was running a ganja trade for many years. The STF team conducted the surprise raid after repeated failure of Sambalpur police and the local excise squad to bust the racket.

The accused used to import the stuff from Cuttack and Boudh and sell it to drug peddlers in the area. The 2.21 quintals of ganja seized today is worth around Rs 20-30 lakh, a CB official said.
