“So far, we have roped in over 30 lakh members in our membership drive,” said Pratap Sadangi, co-convener of membership drive committee of the Odisha unit of BJP.

“With an aim to enroll 40 lakh members in Odisha before April 30, acting members at the block and district level are doing their best to create awareness among people in both rural  and urban areas about the pro-people programmes launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We are hopeful that we will enroll another 10 lakh members in next 11 days to meet the target of 40 lakh by April 30,” said the BJP leader.

Celebrating the achievement of the target of 30 lakh, senior BJP leaders including its women’s wing distributed sweets to each other and burst crackers at the party office here.

“30 lakh target has been achieved by means of mobile phones through toll-free number 1800-266-2020 launched  in the state for registration in the membership drive. Besides, 4-5 lakh members more have already registered their names through other means,” said Sadangi.

Three lakh active members of the party will move door to door from May 1 for verification of membership of the people, who have registered their name through mobile SMS. It will take two months’ time to complete the whole process.

During this period, another 30,000 active members of the party will do the final validation after verification to register genuine members in the party.

“At the national level, we have crossed 10 crores in our membership drive,” said the former Nilagiri MLA.

On November 8 last year, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar had launched the toll-free number  1800-266-2020, a telephone-friendly registration state, in the state for registration in the party’s nationwide membership drive.
