RED ALERT for Heat Wave; 33 places in Odisha record day temperatures above 40 Degrees Celsius

Bhubaneswar: With mercury on the rise at several places in Odisha and as heat wave to severe heat wave condition very likely to prevail over several districts of Odisha during April 26 and April 27, at least thirty-three places of the State witnessed day temperatures above 40 Degrees Celsius, today.

Jharsuguda town recorded the highest maximum (day) temperature at 43.8 Degrees Celsius, followed by Baripada (43.6), Nuapada (43.5), Talcher (43.4), Boudh (43.2), Bolangir, Cuttack, and Kendrapara each (43.0), Angul (42.9), Bhadrak (42.8), Dhenkanal (42.7), Malkangiri (42.6), Jajpur, Sambalpur, and Titilagarh each (42.5), Bhawanipatna, Hirakud, and Paralakhemundi each (42.4), Bhubaneswar, and Nayagarh each (42.2), Jagatsinghpur, and Sundargarh each (42.0), Chandbali, and Keonjhar each (41.8), Khordha (41.5), Rourkela (41.4), Balasore (41.1), Sonepur (41.0), Bargarh (40.8), Phulbani, and Rayagada each (40.6), Nabarangpur (40.4) and Chhatrapur (40.2).

Temperature forecast: Maximum (day) temperature is likely to rise by 2°C to 4°C during next three to four days at many places over the district of Odisha.

People are to take precautionary measures while going outside during the day hours between 1100 Hrs IST and 1500 Hrs IST, a special bulletin of IMD regional centre advised.
