4 CISF men arrested for beating Odisha youth to death

Three jawans and a sub-inspector of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) were arrested by the police in Odisha’s Keonjhar district on Wednesday for allegedly beating a person to death and seriously injuring another on the night of January 31, police said today.

While Kandra Munda (21) and two of his friends of Bolani had gone near an iron ore mines to fetch tin sheets for building a pen for their goats on January 31 night, they were mercilessly beaten up by the CISF jawans following which Kandra died and his friend Birisa Boitei ‘s hand was fractured.

Birisa is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries at the SAIL hospital at Bolani, police said.

Locals on Wednesday gheraoed the Bolani police station and staged a demonstration in front of the mines at Bolani protesting against the atrocity and murder by CISF men.

“We have come to know that actually four CISF personnel were involved in it and we have arrested them yesterday. They will be forwarded to court today,” said Ajay Pratap Swain, SDPO Barbil.

A patrolling party of the CISF had spotted the trio near the iron ore mines on the night of January 31. While one fled, two others were severely beaten up by the CISF men. Kandra died on the spot while Birisa managed to crawl out of the place and escaped. The accused CISF men took Kandra’s body and threw it in a nearby forest, police sources said.
