Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is conducting the examination in two sittings. While the examination for the engineering stream started at 9.30 AM, for architecture stream it would begin at 12.30 PM.

In Odisha, amidst tight security arrangements, the pen and paper based entrance examination began at 71 centres in nine cities and towns of the state. Of the 71 centres, 21 are in Bhubaneswar. The other centres are in Angul, Balasore, Berhampur, Bhawanipatna, Cuttack, Jeypore, Rourkela and Sambalpur.

On the other hand, the computer based examination will be held on April 9-10.

CBSE, for the first time, has installed mobile phone jammers in the examination centres to prevent the use of mobile phones as a mode of malpractice. Besides, the exam conducting body has also decided not to allow candidates to carry pen or pencil to the centres. The authorities would provide them pen to write answers.

With the three-tier security arrangements in place, the officials ensured that students don’t carry electronic gadgets, calculator, mobile phone and watch to the centre.

Overall, approximately 13 lakh students are appearing in the examination across the country through offline and online mode.

JEE (Main) scores are taken into account for admission to undergraduate engineering and architecture programmes at National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), other Centrally-funded technical institutions, and institutions funded by participating state governments.
