Raja revelry marred as 3 girls injured in mishap at Nicco Park in city

Raja revelry at the Nicco Park in Odisha Capital was marred after three girls, all of them from Niladri Vihar area under Chandrasekharpur police limits, fell into the water and received serious injuries when a sliding boat jumped the rails at the water sports complex in the park this evening.

The injured were rushed to Capital Hospital in the city with help from the PCR van of the commissionerate police.

“They are friends and took a ride on the sliding boat. The rope gave way and they were thrown off the boat,” said a relative of one of the injured.

The injured were identified as Saraswati Sethi, Sradhanjali Parida, both pursuing their Plus Two in Maharshi College here, and Priyanka Mohanty, a plus two student from Ramadevi Autonomous College in the city.

Police sources said the injured, who are getting treated in Capital Hospital, had visited the Nicco Park to celebrate Raja Utsav. They fell down from the vehicle, attached to Water Chute, after losing their balance and fell into the water receiving severe injuries in the process.

Sources in the Capital Hospital said their health conditions was stable.

Park authorities described the mishap as ‘unfortunate’. “We are trying to figure out what exactly happened. Routine maintenance check up is done on a daily basis. It is really unfortunate that the mishap happened on such a joyous occasion. We are trying to find out what went wrong,” said Mahendra Kumar Nanda, deputy manager, Nicco Park.
