State Karate Championship begins in city

The 26th State Karate Championship began at the Indoor Hall at Sahid Nagar in the city here on Tuesday.

A total of 350 karatekas of 20 districts are participating in the 31 events under sub junior, junior and senior categories.

Selection of the state team would be made on the basis of the performance of the participants in the two-day championship.

On the opening day of the Championship, Pravin Kumar, Saranya Ray, Abhisek Baraiya stood first in the 10-11-year Boys Kata, Girls Kata and Boys Kumite event respectively.

Udit Uddam, Debasmita Dalabehera and Monalisa Priyadarshini stood first in the 12-13-year Boys Kata, Girls Kata and Girls Kumite event respectively.

In the 14-15 age group, Anirudh Pratap stood first in the Boys Kata while Payal Baral topped in Girls Kata and Girls Kumite events respectively.

In the 16-17 age group, Abhisek Patnaik stood first in the Boys Kata while Somu Nayak topped in Girls Kata and Girls Kumite events respectively.
