Odisha mourn death of Veteran Actor Ajit Das

Bhubaneswar: As soon as the news of the demise of veteran Odia Actor Ajit Das broke out today, condolences poured in from different quarters of the society.

Odisha Chief minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief at the passing away of Das. Describing late Ajit Das as a great genius the chief minister said, “He has left an indelible mark in Odia film industry as a versatile actor and director.”

A former Head of the Department of Drama at Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, the demise of Ajit Das has created a great void in the Odia film industry which will take years to fill. Ajit Das will continue to live in the hearts of innumerable cine lovers of Odisha, Patnaik added. Also he conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said he is deeply saddened after getting the news of the death of Das. “He had enticed Odia cine viewers for a long period with his performance. With his death, there is an end of an era in Odia film industry,” added Pradhan.

OPCC President Niranjan Patnaik also condoled the death and said, “Das’ demise is an irreparable loss for the people of Odisha and Odia film industry. He was not only an individual but an organization creating artists. He will be in the heart of viewers forever for his quality performance.”

Das passed away today afternoon while undergoing treatment at a COVID Hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 71.

He is survived by wife Maya Das and three daughters.
