Dera Sacha Sauda’s Gurmeet Ram Rahim gets lifer in Ranjit Singh murder case

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: A special court in Haryana today awarded life imprisonment to Dera Sacha Sauda’s Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a murder case.

While pronouncing its verdict in the Ranjit Singh murder case, the Special CBI court in Panchkula awarded life imprisonment to Ram Rahim and four other accused.

Also, the court imposed a fine of Rs 31 lakh on Ram Rahim and Rs 50,000 each on other accused.

Earlier, on October 8, 2021, the court had convicted Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others in the 19-year-old murder case.

The Dera Sacha Sauda chief was also convicted in a third case relating to conspiring to murder his former manager, Ranjit Singh, in 2002.

He has been undergoing a 20-year sentence at the high-security Sunaria jail in Rohtak, 250 kms from state capital Chandigarh, for raping his two disciples, and was sentenced to life for the murder of a journalist in 2002.

Ranjit Singh, a former follower of Ram Rahim, was shot dead by four assailants on July 10, 2002, at his native Khanpur Kolian village in Kurukshetra district.
