Ambulance fails to turn up; woman delivers baby in van in Odisha

In an unfortunate incident, a pregnant woman gave birth to her baby in a van as ambulance failed to reach on time in Odisha’s Rayagada district today.

According to reports, Sunita Bhatriya, the pregnant lady hailing from Palakhamana village under Singari panchayat here, was taken to Kalyansinghpur community health centre (CHC) by her family members in a van as ‘102’ and ‘108’ ambulance didn’t reach the village after her husband called for the emergency service.

The woman gave birth to her baby in the vehicle while she was on the way to Kalyansinghpur CHC. Later, the newborn and the lady were taken to the CHC where the health condition of the mother-baby duo was reportedly stable.
