Attack on SVNIRTAR director: Prime accused among 5 held

Cuttack: Odisha police cracked the attack on Olatpur-based SVNIRTAR Director Shakti Prasad Das with apprehending five persons including prime accused in the case.

The key accused was identified as Laxmidhar Mallick, a canteen staff of SVNIRTAR.

Police sources said that Mallick had hired four goons to threaten Swami Vivekananda National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR) director. After receiving an amount of Rs 35,000 from him, the four miscreants had attacked Das’ car on July 3.

According to reports, Shakti Prasad Das, the Director of India’s premier medical rehabilitation institution for the persons with locomotor disabilities, was attacked at Kantapada in Cuttack district while he was returning from the hospital. The miscreants hurled stones at his car in which the windshield of the vehicle was badly damaged and Das suffered injuries on his head.

A complaint was filed with the Olatpur police following which a probe began into the incident.
