Baby girl abducted from Odisha capital rescued in Puri village

Commissionerate Police rescued a one and half year old girl from Adala village under Gadasigoda police limits in Odisha’s Puri district on Saturday night.

Some unidentified persons had abducted the girl, daughter of a city-based businessman, from Palasuni area under Mancheswar Police limits yesterday, police said without divulging the details of the abduction.

After coming to know of their daughter’s disappearance, the harassed father lodged a complaint at the local police station, based on which police registered a case and launched an investigation.

According to police sources, after abducting the girl, the accused persons, who were still at large, had kept her in an undisclosed house in Adala village. While the culprits were demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore from the girl’s parent to release her, they were chased by the villagers who heard their demands. The villagers later rescued the girl and handed her over to the local police station in Puri who in turn, contacted Mancheswar police to rescue the girl from the district.

Meanwhile, police have identified the accused as Rama Maharana and Sameer Patra, both 22 years of age. They were working as carpenters at a businessman’s house. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the culprits.
