BDA turns aggressive, demolishes 5-storeyed building in city

The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) along with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday started demolition of a five-storied illegal commercial building constructed on plot number-126/A in Ashok Nagar area here.

According to BDA enforcement officer Deba Prasad Dash, the plot was allotted to a person named Pinaki Biswal, a builder, by the General Administration Department for commercial purpose a few years back. But the owner of the plot erected a building illegally violating the guidelines of BDA.

Despite our repeated orders, the owner did not stop the illegal construction.

“We even directed him to demolish the building on her own, but the owner did not respond our orders forcing us to demolish the building,” said Dash.

Demolition process of the building will take five days to finish, added Dash. A dozer, drilling machines and BMC trucks was put into service for demolition work and to carry the building materials detached from the building.

Moreover one platoon of police force were deployed to avoid any untoward incident, said Dash besides, 20 persons of BDA and BMC including enforcement officials were put to task during this drive, he added.

The demolition of the building is one of the biggest drives against illegal construction in the recent history of BDA, enforcement officials of BDA said adding more than 100 buildings with no permission from the BDA and with cancellation of building plan approval by the development authority will be demolished in future.
