IMD predicts rainfall activities, heat wave conditions in Odisha districts on May 2

Bhubaneswar: Mainly due to prevalent North-westerly/Westerly dry air and high solar insolation, rainfall activities and heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha on May 2, India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre forecasted today.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD mentioned, “Maximum temperatures observed marked rise at one or two places over the districts of Coastal Odisha, appreciable rise at one or two places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha and no large change at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha. They were markedly above normal at many places over the districts of Coastal Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of Interior Odisha, appreciably above normal at a few places over the districts of Interior Odisha, above normal at a few places over the districts of Odisha and normal at elsewhere over the districts of Odisha.”

Temperature forecast: Maximum (day) temperature is likely to be above normal by 3°C to 6°C over some districts of Odisha during next four to five days. No large change in the maximum temperature during next two days and a gradual fall by 2°C to 3°C thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha. People are to take precautionary measures while going outside during the day hours between 11.00 AM and 3.00 PM, the IMD centre in Bhubaneswar advised.

The highest maximum (day) temperature of 46.4°C was recorded at Baripada and the lowest minimum (night) temperature of 25.0°C was recorded at Sundargarh and Chhatrapur in the plains of Odisha. With 46.4°C day temperature, Baripada town was the second hottest place in the world, yesterday.

Light rain or thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Khurda and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Red Warning: (Be Alert)-

Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Bolangir, Nuapada, and Kalahandi.

Orange Warning: (Be Prepared)-

Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in the districts of Deogarh, Bargarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Cuttack.

Yellow Warning: (Be Updated)-

Heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in the districts of Nayagarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Kandhamal.

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 KMPH is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, and Khurda.

For Thursday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 02.05.2024 to 0830 hrs IST of 03.05.2024)

Light rain or thundershower is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of South Coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.

Red Warning: (Be Alert)-

Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Bolangir, Nuapada, and Kalahandi.
