In a joint operation, Twin City Commissionerate police, forest officials, fire department officials and Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) authorities rescued the bear aged between 3-5 years.

The forest officials are of the view that the wild animal might have strayed into the village from Chandaka forest range.

The bear fell into the abandoned well last night following which the villagers informed the forest officials to rescue the animal.

“The bear has falled into the well last night. We got information from the villagers after which we passed on the message to our higher-ups and the Nandankanan authorities. Based on approval, we came here to rescue the bear. The animal will be shifted to NZP where medical examination will be conducted,” a forest official, Kamal Kumar Acharya said.
