Bhubaneswar man jumps into Mahanadi from Mundali Bridge in Cuttack

Cuttack: A man reportedly jumped into Mahanadi river from Mundali bridge in Odisha’s Cuttack, today.

As per reports, the person, a resident of Bhubaneswar, parked his scooter on the bridge and jumped into the water body around 3 PM. He went missing after the incident. His mobile phone was found on the bridge.

On being informed, Barang police and Fire Services personnel reached the spot and initiated rescue operation to trace the youth. The reason behind his extreme step was yet to be ascertained.

In a similar incident, a youth namely Saishree Jyotiprakash, who was a resident of Samantarapur area, had ended his life by jumping into Bindusagar lake near the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar on October 23 night.

He kept his mobile phone and other belongings at the bank of the water body and took the extreme step, reports said.

Earlier in the evening of the fateful day, Saishree Jyotiprakash posted a ‘suicide note’ on his Instagram account.

Earlier on October 20, a man had died after jumping into river from Kathajodi bridge here. The deceased was identified as Sapan Kumar Behera (29), a courier boy who was a resident of Kharavela Nagar in Bhubaneswar.

Sapan arrived on a scooter and parked the two-wheeler on the bridge in the morning. Moments later, he jumped into the water body from the bridge and went missing.

An ODRAF team launched a search operation and recovered his body from the river.

Last month, Debasis Das, Lab Assistant of BJB Autonomous College, Bhubaneswar, had died after jumping into Mahanadi river here.
