‘Winnability’ only criteria for candidate selection: BJD chief Naveen

Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will select its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the state over “winnability” criteria, said Odisha Chief Minister and party supremo Naveen Patnaik today.

On being asked by media persons about the chances of the BJD going for a coalition, Patnaik said the party will fight on its own. “We will fight on our own,” he said.

Selection of candidates on the basis of winnability criteria is also being stressed by the Odisha unit of Congress as Pradesh Congress Committee President Niranjan Patnaik and other party leaders had spoken about it in the recent past.

Finalisation of list of candidates by three major political parties of Odisha– BJD, BJP and Congress– is in full swing amid announcement of Lok Sabha and Assembly election dates.
