The district Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha president has filed FIR against Das Burma, Singh Deo, Begunia MLA Prashant Jagdev, BMC corporator Amresh Jena and BJD youth wing vice-president Bijay Nayak at the Manamunda police station.

On the other hand, MLA Jagdev refuted the allegations. “The BJP workers attacked us on the pretext of showing black flags. We acted in self defense as they would have killed us. My hand was fractured in the attack,” said Jagdev.

According to reports, around ten workers of the saffron party showed black flags to the two ministers at Manamunda when they were on the way to Boudh Collector’s office to stage protest against construction of projects in the upper catchment of river Mahanadi by Chhattisgarh government.

After the incident, some BJD supporters who were following the ministers in a car came out of the vehicle and started thrashing the BJP workers in the presence of policemen, sources said. One of the workers was reportedly kicked by the BJD supporters at his face and chest after he fell down.

The conch party supporters left the spot after the incident and were not stopped by the cops, sources said adding that 8 BJP workers were detained by police.

Condemning the incident, BJP spokesperson Sajjan Sharma said that it is an inhuman act by the BJD.

BJP legislature party committee led by KV Singh Deo will visit the spot at Manamunda tomorrow, informed BJP leader Prithiviraj Harichandan at a press conference in Bhubaneswar.

“We were protesting in a democratic way. They suddenly came out of car and attacked our workers. Three of our workers were injured in the attack,” said Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Boudh president Narayan Karmi.

“The BJD will seek a detailed report on the matter. The matter will be examined and action will be taken thereafter,” said BJD leader Subash Singh.
