BJD sweeps Phase-1 rural polls, BJP-Cong vie for 2nd spot

Bhubaneswar: Ruling BJD’s popularity has not diminished in Odisha in any way as understood from the three-tier Panchayat Polls 2022. The regional party led by Naveen Patnaik has been inching towards a clean sweep in the panchayat polls which has been evident from the results of counting of votes for 315 Zilla Parishad seats today.

Till the filing of this report, BJD has been leading in 279 zilla parishad seats. Congress was ahead of other parties in 16 ZP seats whereas BJP was leading in 13 Zilla Parishad constituencies. Independent candidates were leading in two ZP seats and Others were on edge in three ZP seats. The data on counting of votes were provided by the State Election Commission (SEC).

Out of 851 zilla parishad seats in the State which went for polls during the recently held panchayat polls, counting of votes for 315 ZP seats were held on February 26, 2022.
