Bus fares hiked in Odisha under automatic mechanism

The Odisha government today increased bus fares across all categories under the automatic fare adjustment mechanism. The fares of ordinary and express buses were hiked by 1 paise per km and that of deluxe and AC deluxe buses by 2 paise per km.

As per a notification issued by the state Commerce and Transport department, the fare for ordinary buses will now be 60 paise per km as against 59 paise per km and the fare for express buses has been increased to 63 paise from 62 paise per km.

Similarly, deluxe category buses will now charge 84 paise per km as against 82 paise earlier and passengers travelling in AC Deluxe buses will have to shell out Rs 1.05 instead of the existing Rs 1.03 paise per km.

According to the automatic mechanism for revision of fares implemented by the Odisha government, the fare for ordinary and express buses would be hiked by one paise per km if the price of diesel is hiked by Rs 2 per litre. The fare of ordinary and express buses will be reduced by one paise per km if the price of diesel is reduced by Rs 2 per litre.

Similarly, fare for deluxe and AC deluxe buses would be hiked by two paise per km if the price of diesel is increased by Rs 2 per litre. The fare for deluxe and AC deluxe buses would be reduced by two paise per km if the price of diesel is reduced by Rs 2 per litre.

Notably, diesel price was hiked by Rs 2.37 per litre on Saturday.
