Cabinet Decision: Odisha to build over 3,000 km of roads under Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana

The state government has sanctioned around Rs 5,000 crore for the projects

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today approved proposals for several road projects under Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY) in the state.

The state government has sanctioned Rs 976 crore for implementation of MMSY-Connecting Unconnected Villages in Difficult Areas (CUVDA) in 2023-24 and 2024-25 financial years. The Cabinet gave its nod to a proposal in this regard, said Chief Secretary PK Jena.

The state government will construct 361.34 km new roads under the scheme in two years. Besides, steps will be taken up for completion of all ongoing road projects under this initiative, added the Chief Secretary.

The state government had launched MMSY-CUVDA to provide improved all-weather connectivity to villages affected by the Left Wing Extremism (LWE), hilly areas and unconnected islands in Odisha.

The Cabinet has also approved a proposal for sanctioning Rs 1,893 crore for the implementation of MMSY-Transferred Road Improvement Programme (TRIP) in 2023-24 and 2024-25 fiscals, Jena said.

The state government will build 1814.92 km new roads under the initiative in two years. This apart, the government will expedite all ongoing road projects under the scheme, he added.

The state government had launched the MMSY-TRIP to improve roads transferred from Panchayati Raj department and other departments to Rural Development department in Odisha.

According to Jena, the Cabinet approved a proposal for allocating Rs 918 crore for the implementation of MMSY-Improvement to Existing RD Roads initiative in 2023-24 and 2024-25 fiscals.

New road projects of 554.67 km will be taken up under the initiative in Odisha. The initiative was launched by the state government for the improvement of existing Rural Development department roads to cater to the communications needs of people of rural areas.

A proposal for sanctioning Rs 1,160 crore for the implementation of MMSY-Connecting Missing Road Links (CMRL) in the state in 2023-24 and 2024-25 financial years, Jena said.

The government has set a target to build 673.49 km new roads under the initiative.

The state had launched the scheme to bridge the crucial missing link in inter block, inter district and interstate road connectivity, Jena added.
