Upset with the teacher’s derogatory remark, the Dalit students who were at the receiving end of the teacher’s alleged casteist comment have lodged a complaint with the Kendrapara SP and have threatened to leave the school if action is not taken against the teacher.

The Dalit students of Bande Mataram high school in Andhara have alleged that physical education teacher (PET) Ashok Kumar Mallick abused them with casteist remark and asked them to leave the place while Ganesh Puja celebrations were on in the school today.

“We complained about it to the headmaster. But instead of taking action against the PET, he scolded us. If the PET is not sacked, we will all leave the school,” said Monalisa Mallick, one of the affected students.

The students first lodged a complaint at the Chaudakulat police station and then met Kendrapara additional SP Ramesh Chandra Mohanty with their grievance.

“The Pattamundai DSP has been entrusted with the inquiry into the incident. Action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the inquiry,”  Mohanty said.
